How do you clean a deep fryer?

Hygiene

When working with food, it is essential to be clean and hygienic. Here you will find the most important points to keep an eye on so that maintenance can be done easily and safely.

Regular oil changes

To keep a deep fryer as clean as possible and ensure the quality of the fried food, it is important to change the oil regularly. Oil that is not changed or filtered on time is bad for your health and can cause your product to taste bad.
How often oil should be changed depends on usage. Good indications that you need to change your frying oil are the color and smell of the oil but also the final frying result.

Filtering and sieving

After each use of the fryer, it is advisable to strain the oil. This significantly extends the life and quality of the oil. It is possible to use a filter spoon to remove small contaminants during frying, but at the end of use it is recommended to filter all the fat in the fryer through a sieve. This prevents leftover food particles from burning and potentially affecting the taste of the oil. Filtering the oil is easiest when it is still slightly warm (But not too hot).

Interior and exterior cleaning

The inside of the fryer should be cleaned after each oil change to remove accumulated grease and food residue. First, make sure you unplug the fryer and it is emptied into the grease barrel and has cooled sufficiently. Remove any remaining oil and food residue with kitchen paper. The excess oil is easiest to remove with a degreaser and some lukewarm water. Mix these in a plant sprayer and spray the fryer thoroughly on the inside and outside. Be careful with the electronics in the fryer, though. Then use a sponge to release the degreaser well everywhere. You can use a cloth to remove the degreaser and then wipe the fryer with a damp cloth to take away any soap residue, etc. left behind. Before refilling the fryer, dry the container thoroughly.

Should your fryer get very dirty after heavy use, half a dishwashing cube can work wonders. Fill the fryer to the min mark with water, add the dishwashing cube and turn the fryer on at 70 degrees. Let the fryer heat for 30 minutes. Then turn off the fryer and let it cool thoroughly. Once the water has cooled down, open the drain valve to remove the water and wipe the fryer thoroughly with a cloth.

Oil filter

For thorough cleaning, you can use an oil filter. There are special filter systems on the market that pump oil through a filter, removing even the smallest particles. Its use is simple and ensures that maintenance of the frying oil takes little time. It allows you to keep the oil clean longer and reduces the frequency of oil changes.
